today's presentation was about Stephen King's novella entitled The Body. It was published in 1982, and adapted into a movie in 1986.
It takes place in Stephen King's favourite location, in Maine, USA, around the fictional city of Castle Rock. It's a coming of age story about a group of teenagers who want to see a dead body, walking miles for that. They all come from dysfunctional families. there's no supernatural subplot in the novel.
King invented a few cities where the action of his novels take place: Derry, Castle Rock and Jerusalem's Lot. In this, he was inspired by American author H.P. Lovecraft, who likewise wrote about imaginary places : Arkham, Dunwich, Innsmouth, and even a fictional book, the Necronomicon, written by a mad Arab in the 7th century.
