Hello there !
1. What atmosphere does the first scene convey?
2. In scene 2, how is Macbeth portrayed?
3. What role does violence play in those two scenes?
Violence is shown very directly : the characters in scene 2 are "meeting a bleeding Sergeant" and talk about his wounds. Likewise, the witches make a horrible stew, and we can see it very plainly in Polanski's adaptation.
RIGHT!
Now, on the the next job. I'll give you a bonus test. I know it can be difficult for you to stay focused on your work. So, the next activity will be marked (elle sera donc notée). For now, I'll consider it as a bonus, only good marks will be taken into account. But make sure to answer the test, because if you don't, I'll mark it 0 (and it WILL count).
To prepare for the test, read the third scene!
Don't worry if it's difficult, the test will be rather easy, and a video will help you.
As soon as you think you're ready for the test, on to the next step!
Bon courage!
I've had time to work too, just to simplify things, and make them a bit more interesting for you.
Normally, you've all read the first two scenes of Macbeth. You've learned a few things...
Here are possible answers for last time's questions:
1. What atmosphere does the first scene convey?
The first scene introduces the witches. They are presented in a very dark, gloomy setting. They talk about curses and charms, and they stir something in a cauldron. They are evil.
2. In scene 2, how is Macbeth portrayed?
Macbeth doesn't appear in that scene, and yet he is at the centre of it. The other characters mention his bravery, his courage, and his loyalty to the King. He is portrayed as a true hero.
3. What role does violence play in those two scenes?
Violence is shown very directly : the characters in scene 2 are "meeting a bleeding Sergeant" and talk about his wounds. Likewise, the witches make a horrible stew, and we can see it very plainly in Polanski's adaptation.
